Ethanol Molecule $15.99 Ethanol -- We Love You, Man Ah, glorious ethanol, aka ethyl alcohol. How we love you. We would count the ways, but we can't remember them all. And even if we could, we like to count on our fingers, and we might not have the motor coordination for that right now. So we'll leave the exact number of ways we love you unsaid. But it's a lot. Our artist figured ethanol deserved slightly different treatment than our Caffeine Molecule, Capsaicin Molecule, and Chocolate Molecule designs. The ancient Egyptians may have had 17 different types of beer, but it wasn't until 1808 that Nicolas-Théodore de Saussure determined ethanol's magical chemical formula, hence our established on date for the molecular structure. This is a black, 100% cotton t-shirt. The ethyl alcohol moleculecular structure is emblazoned in white on a red emblem encircled with a golden-yellow edge and flanked by stalks of blessed grain, the fermentation of which presumably led to the alcohol molecular structure shown. Beneath is a banner of the same yellow which reads "Est. 1808 - Saussure." |

Pharmacological Effects of Ethanol on the Nervous System $196.76 This book is intended to be an update on the recent developments in the actions of ethanol on the central nervous system. Divided in three parts the first is a discussion of some of the cellular events that are perturbed by ethanol. Second is a discussion of the behavioral effects of ethanol. Finally there is a section of the possible mechanisms of structural damage to the central nervous system in fetal and adult brains. This is an exciting, useful and affordable book. . . . The editors have done a remarkable job of assembling much of the molecular/cellular, behavioral and chemical aspects of ethanol into some 450 pages. -Journal of Studies on AlcoholThis book dissects the effects of ethanol on the major neurotransmitter systems affected by ethanol and correlates these actions with the behavioral consequences. The subject is approached first from the perspective of the neurochemical system and the behaviors resulting from ethanol's effects on that system. The behaviors themselves are discussed in later chapters. Some older theories of the effects of ethanol such as the membrane fluidization hypothesis are evaluated in light of new and updated information. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) as well as the structural damage in the brain by long term ethanol exposure are also discussed. |

Global Impact Of Sugar Cane Ethanol $45 Climate change is a challenge facing human life. It will change mobility and asks for new energy solutions. Bioenergy has gained increased attention as an alternative to fossil fuels. Energy based on renewable sources may offer part of the solution. Bio ethanol based on sugar cane offers advantages to people, the environment and the economy. Not surprisingly, governments currently enact powerful incentives for the development and exploitation of bio ethanol. However, every inch we come closer to this achievement, evokes more scepticism. Many questions are raised relating to whether sugar cane is really a sustainable solution.Still much is unknown about the net release of carbon dioxide and what the impacts of sugar cane expansion are on green house gas emissions. This book looks at the scientific base of the debate on sugar cane bio ethanol. Authors from Europe, Brazil and the USA capture many aspects of what is known and address assumptions while not denying that still much is unknown. It covers impacts on climate change, land use, sustainability and market demands. This publication discusses public policy impacts, technology developments, the fuel-food dilemma and the millennium development goals. This makes this publication unique and extremely relevant for policymakers, scientists and the private energy sector worldwide. |

Alcohol Fuel: Making and Using Ethanol as a Renewable Fuel $16.86 pDwindling petroleum supplies and growing environmental concerns are significantly impacting the cost of petro-fuel and its infrastructure. The search for alternative fuel sources has led to ethanol, a gasoline substitute that is already in the marketplace as Gasohol and E-85. But large-scale production of corn-based ethanol is controversial as it threatens the world's food supply. There are alternatives, however: Brazil uses sugar cane, which is up to six times more productive in energy conversion.pAfter the energy crisis of the 1970s, there was a lot of misinformation about the cost of individual ethanol production. In order to achieve energy independence from gasoline, ethanol lends itself to small-scale production, and especially to cooperative ventures in rural communities, often using waste feedstock.pAlcohol Fuel is a practical, grassroots book that will give readers all the information they need, covering every aspect of making and using ethanol for fuel, including: Permitting and planningBudgeting and setupSourcing feedstocksFinding and building distillation equipmentStorage and safetyPractical applications for converting motor vehicles, farm equipment, and space-heating systemspThe practical, user-friendly information on basic equipment needs, fermentation recipes, and distillation designs will be of interest to readers looking for information, as well as to those ready to make the switch.pRichard Freudenberger was research director of Mother Earth News, where he managed the Alcohol Fuel Program and developed solar and renewable solar and energy projects. He is publisher and technical editor of BackHome magazine and lives in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The essential how-to book on making and using ethanol as an alternative renewable fuel. |

American Gold Rush In The Twenty-First Century: Corn Ethanol: America' $5.57 Ethanol made in the United States eliminates the need to import foreign oil, provides more efficient fuel and creates hundreds of thousands of good jobs. But there are still people who feel that producing and using it is a mistake.p To show that corn ethanol really does have benefits, Keith B. Zacharias, who has worked at companies such as Texaco and ABB, explains the facts behind its production. For instance:ul liEthanol produced in the U.S. utilizes corn, 80 percent of which is used for animal feed, not human consumption. liAlmost all gasoline in the U.S. has approximately 10 percent ethanol in it at this time. liThe U.S. economy is now in serious jeopardy because we import 65 percent of the oil we need, and the price is bankrupting our nation./ul After years of being held hostage by foreign oil cartels, people are finally beginning to grasp the need for alternative fuels. Find out why corn ethanol is a worthy option and one that could change the nation for the better in iAmerican Gold Rush in the Twenty-First Century/i. |

21st Century Complete Guide To Cellulosic Ethanol - Biomass To Biofuel $45 This unique electronic book on CD-ROM has an amazing collection of federal documents and reports on converting cellulose to biofuels such as ethanol. The disc provides a complete reproduction of an important report, entitled Biofuels Joint Roadmap, June 2006, Office of Science and Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy. We'll also fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn, but from wood chips and stalks or switchgrass. - President George W. Bush, State of the Union Address, January 2006 - A robust fusion of the agricultural, industrial biotechnology, and energy industries can create a new strategic national capability for energy independence and climate protection. Fuels derived from cellulosic biomass-the fibrous, woody, and generally inedible portions of plant matter-offer one such alternative to conventional energy sources that can dramatically impact national economic growth, national energy security, and environmental goals. Cellulosic biomass is an attractive energy feedstock because it is an abundant, domestic, renewable source that can be converted to liquid transportation fuels. These fuels can be used readily by current-generation vehicles and distributed through the existing transportation-fuel infrastructure. The Biomass to Biofuels Workshop, held December 7-9, 2005, was convened by the Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research in the Office of Science; and the Office of the Biomass Program in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The purpose was to define barriers and challenges to a rapid expansion of cellulosic-ethanol production and determine ways to speed solutions through concerted application of modern biology tools as part of a joint research agenda. Although the focus was ethanol, the science applies to additional fuels that include biodiesel and other bioproducts or coproducts having critical roles in any deploy@F€ |

Alcohol Can Be a Gas!: Fueling an Ethanol Revolution for the 21st Cent $38.44 Blume (permaculture, International Institute for Ecological Culture) has been at the forefront of alternative fuel technology for 30-plus years. In the 1980s, he wrote and hosted a 10-part how-to series, Alcohol As Fuel, for KQED, the local PBS station in San Francisco. Widespread distribution of the show-and a companion text prepared by Blume-were canceled by KQED following pressure from some of the station's corporate sponsors. Now some 25 years later-as conventional energy prices are sailing through the roof-Blume's work is finally made available in print. He provides general readers with a wide range of information about the history, production, and use of alcohol fuel, and demonstrates how a permaculturally-designed ethanol system could provide us with surpluses of local food, energy, community and power. The 2007-2012 World Outlook For Fuel Ethanol Manufactured By Dry Mill $969 This study covers the world outlook for fuel ethanol manufactured by dry mill distillation across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-`-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. |

The 2007 Report On Fuel Ethanol Manufactured By The Wet Mill Process: $969 This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a borderless world, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for fuel ethanol manufactured by the wet mill process for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category satellite launch vehicles. Clearly, there@ŽH |
