Alternative fuels, or at least the notion of them have existed since the dawn of the automobile. The gasoline engine combustion changed face of the planet, but from day 1 have sought alternative fuels to power the engine.

It was not until that the gas shortage in America of the 1970s that research into alternative fuels has really begun in earnest. With a shortage of gasoline, had no other choice but to develop alternatives to conventional gasoline engine. What they discovered was ethanol.

Ethanol

Alcohol from corn has been around since mankind has learned to grow, but it was not until 70 years have scientists realized they could be used in gasoline for motor vehicles. Ethanol (denatured with methanol, enough so that people were not drinking) could boost internal combustion engine as effectively as the petrochemical industry, but without many harmful by-products of petrochemical products of combustion. It was more cheaper to produce than gasoline, requiring large amounts Corn, which was good for farmers at the time.

There were other fuels that are found working together with the engine modifications to meet the new fuel. Natural gas, propane, hydrogen and all the power of an internal combustion engine and gasoline or ethanol. But it was (and still are) problems of fuel storage and delivery, and the engine must be modified to use these fuels - Do not run on a gasoline engine design standard.

Why we do not use alternative fuels, then?

There probably no simple answer to explain why they are not already receiving these alternative fuels now - 30 years after the investigation began. Some citing the political influence of big oil companies, while others cite the expense of infrastructure development of a new fuel type (which becomes more difficult for the millions of gasoline vehicles already on the road), others say that technologies are simply not ready yet. The real answer is probably a mixture of all these reasons and many others - the inertia of society comes to mind. People are simply not comfortable with gas guzzlers, even much of the population wants this change will not happen. But fortunately, this is happening today. With gas prices spiral out of control at the pump, cities increasingly wrapped in a blanket, thickening smog and hit world opinion envornmental is high, popular demand for fuel alternatives that are less expensive and more environmentally friendly is a whole level.

Isopropyl alcohol may be used to evaporate the water in a tank of gas?

I just saw on New ethanol is put on our gas can cause water to accumulate in the fuel tank his boat (which also causes corrosion of pipes and the fuel tank itself) and wondered if the isopropyl alcohol can evaporate the water in the tank (because it is highly volatile)

If you add alcohol, which should care for the condensation of water in the tank, not cause not ...
