If you are willing to modify your gasoline engine so that it can run on water, you simply need a few additional arrangements so that water gets electrolyzed in an outer chamber and through the connecting arrangements the gases produced from it are passed to the combustion chamber. Water dissociates into two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen during electrolysis, and these free atoms chemically combine through coordinate bonds to form hydrogen and oxygen gases molecules.

The hydrogen gas is much more efficient and it has higher calorific value than gasoline and it produces water after combustion. The water produced during combustions will keep down the temperature of your car engine. As the temperature is low within the car engine, the other problems associated with it also get minimized. Further hydrogen does not produce sludge, varnish or soot during combustion so it also helps in cleaning engine parts. The wear and tear of the engine parts is more common at higher temperature and in presence of sludge, varnish or soot, however if the temperature is low and the oxidation products of gasoline and diesel are minimum, the wear and tear of engine parts is also minimum.

Generally the conventional fuels such as gasoline or diesel after burning in combustion chambers emits particulate matter, un-burnt hydrocarbon vapors, oxides of sulfur and oxides of nitrogen are also emitted if the engine temperature goes beyond a particular temperature. A lot of carbon dioxide also emitted and which is causing a damage to our environment vigorously. Some of these gases and particularly carbon dioxide contribute in global warming and therefore polluting our environment rapidly.

If you run your car on water, you send hydrogen and oxygen mixture in the combustion chamber of your car and hydrogen on burning gives only water. This water keeps the temperature of engine down and therefore reduces the chances of Nox formation within the combustion chamber. As hydrogen is a clean fuel, it do not produce oxides of sulfur and nitrogen and therefore it’s more and more use will ensure the safe and protected environment for years to come

What are the 5 units of water due to hydrogen bonding?

So far, I have the surface tension, water as solvent, and other two do not count, I'm sure: the ice can float and evaporation. Unable to determine if they are caused by HB, and still need one more. Can anyone give me a list or other links?

Ice floats for one reason is because ice is less dense, then because the water molecules are farther in the ice water is also a direct consequence of the binding between the hydrogen atom of hydrogen and oxygen held very weakly electronegative, it is against most solids. Too, the high boiling point, then, another factor which depends, among other things, the hydrogen bond. You see a lot of energy required to break hydrogen bonds and then more energy to the molecules enough kinetic energy to escape the pressure. What is adherence and cohesion of water. Water can "stick" to a specific area, This is called adhesion, This is extremely important in plants because they have no heart "of the water pump. As a molecule evaporates from leaves, polishing stay with him in a continual movement of water upward to leaves and the rest of the upper part of the plant. The water molecules continue to move, because "stock", with hydrogen bonds, this stick "of" like molecules "by intermolecular forces, as The hydrogen bonds is called cohesion. Another example of cohesion in the workplace is the surface tension, water has a very high surface tension which means that the energy needed to break a given area of the liquid surface is relatively large. Because a molecule surrounded by other water molecules are drawn in all directions, no net force exerted on him is not the case for molecules located surface. The molecules on the surface internal net because there is no strength to fight on the opposite side, thus forming a "layer thin "on the surface. Therefore we can not overfill a container with water at a given time and does not overflow, this phenomenon is very important for some insects, water insects, ie, because they can "walk" in the water surface. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cohesion_ (chemistry) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_tension

The Hydrogen Bond and the Water Molecule

The Hydrogen Bond and the Water Molecule

$195

The Hydrogen Bond and the Water Molecule offers a synthesis of what is known and currently being researched on the topic of hydrogen bonds and water molecules. The most simple water molecular, H2O, is a fascinating but poorly understood molecule. Its unique ability to attract an exceptionally large number of hydrogen bonds induces the formation of a dense "hydrogen bond network" that has the potential to modify the properties of the surrounding molecules and their reactivities. The crucial role that water molecules play is described in this book. The author begins by providing an overview of the thermodynamical and structural properties of H-bonds before examining their much less known dynamical properties, which makes them appear as centres of reactivity. Methods used to observe these components are also reviewed. In the second part of the book the role played by the dense H-bond network developed by H2O molecules is examined. First in ice, where it has important atmospheric consequences, then in liquid water, and finally in macromolecules where it sheds some original light on the fundamental question "How is it that without water and hydrogen bonds life would not exist?". This book will be of interest to researchers in the fields of physics, chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology. It can also serve as a teaching aid for students attending course in chemical physics, chemistry or molecular biology. Engineers involved the water industry would benefit from reading this book, as would scientists working in pharmaceutics, cosmetics and materials. * overview of what is known and being researched on the topic of hydrogen bonds and water molecules * reviews methods used to observe interactions between water molecules and hydrogen bonds * examines role of H-bond network developed by H2O molecules

Hydrogen Energy (Hardcover)

Hydrogen Energy (Hardcover)

$163.4

A transition to renewable and low-carbon forms of energy is being widely debated as a means of securing a sustainable future for mankind. Hydrogen Energy Challenges and Prospects, a new book from the authors of Clean Energy, considers the prospects for hydrogen as a universal energy vector and fuel for the decades to come. With no emissions other than water arising from its combustion, the potential virtues of harnessing and utilizing hydrogen correlate with recent growing concern over the security of conventional fuel supply and global climate change. This book sets out to analyze the technical situation in an objective fashion, free from the constraints of political and industrial loyalties. Areas covered include pathways to hydrogen production, prospects for carbon capture and storage, options for hydrogen storage on vehicles, fuel cells, and fuel cell vehicles. Each of the many facets of hydrogen energy is discussed and the challenges to be faced are addressed. The authors acknowledge it is not possible to reach a simple, unequivocal conclusion regarding overall prospects, since the international energy scene is so complex, and predicting long-term futures is so notoriously difficult. Nevertheless, the reader will be given compelling pointers indicative of the way in which events might develop. This topical book is ideal for undergraduates, postgraduates and academics with an interest in hydrogen energy. Government agencies and energy professionals will also find this content to be a useful reference source.

Models for Bonding in Chemistry

Models for Bonding in Chemistry

$145

A readable little book assisting the student in understanding, in a nonmathematical way, the essentials of the different bonds occurring in chemistry. Starting with a short, self-contained,introduction, Chapter 1 presents the essential elements of the variation approach to either total or second-order molecular energies, the system of atomic units (au) necessary to simplify all mathematical expressions, and an introductory description of the electron distribution in molecules. Using mostly 2x2 Hückel secular equations, Chapter 2, by far the largest part of the book because of the many implications of the chemical bond, introduces a model of bonding in homonuclear and heteronuclear diatomics, multiple and delocalized bonds in hydrocarbons, and the stereochemistry of chemical bonds in polyatomic molecules, in a word, a model of the strong first-order interactions originating the chemical bond. In Chapter 3 the Hückel model of the linear polyene chain is used to explain the origin of band structure in the 1-dimensional crystal. Chapter 4 deals with a simple two-state model of weak interactions, introducing the reader to understand second-order electric properties of molecules and VdW bonding between closed shells. Lastly, Chapter 5 studies the structure of H-bonded dimers and the nature of the hydrogen bond, which has a strength intermediate between a VdW bond and a weak chemical bond. Besides a qualitative MO approach based on HOMO-LUMO charge transfer from an electron donor to an electron acceptor molecule, a quantitative electrostatic approach is presented yielding an electrostatic model working even at its simplest pictorial level. A list of alphabetically ordered references, author and subject indices complete the book.

Chemical Bonding at Surfaces and Interfaces

Chemical Bonding at Surfaces and Interfaces

$103

Molecular surface science has made enormous progress in the past 30 years. The development can be characterized by a revolution in fundamental knowledge obtained from simple model systems and by an explosion in the number of experimental techniques. The last 10 years has seen an equally rapid development of quantum mechanical modeling of surface processes using Density Functional Theory (DFT). Chemical Bonding at Surfaces and Interfaces focuses on phenomena and concepts rather than on experimental or theoretical techniques. The aim is to provide the common basis for describing the interaction of atoms and molecules with surfaces and this to be used very broadly in science and technology. The book begins with an overview of structural information on surface adsorbates and discusses the structure of a number of important chemisorption systems. Chapter 2 describes in detail the chemical bond between atoms or molecules and a metal surface in the observed surface structures. A detailed description of experimental information on the dynamics of bond-formation and bond-breaking at surfaces make up Chapter 3. Followed by an in-depth analysis of aspects of heterogeneous catalysis based on the d-band model. In Chapter 5 adsorption and chemistry on the enormously important Si and Ge semiconductor surfaces are covered. In the remaining two Chapters the book moves on from solid-gas interfaces and looks at solid-liquid interface processes. In the final chapter an overview is given of the environmentally important chemical processes occurring on mineral and oxide surfaces in contact with water and electrolytes. * Gives examples of how modern theoretical DFT techniques can be used to design heterogeneous catalysts * This book suits the rapid introduction of methods and concepts from surface science into a broad range of scientific disciplines where the interaction between a solid and the surrounding gas or liquid phase is an essential component * Shows how insight into chemical bonding at surfaces can be applied to a range of scientific problems in heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, environmental science and semiconductor processing * Provides both the fundamental perspective and an overview of chemical bonding in terms of structure, electronic structure and dynamics of bond rearrangements at surfaces

The Nature of the Hydrogen Bond

The Nature of the Hydrogen Bond

$130

Hydrogen bond (H-bond) effects are known: it makes sea water liquid, joins cellulose microfibrils in trees, shapes DNA into genes and polypeptide chains into wool, hair, muscles or enzymes. Its true nature is less known and we may still wonder why O-H...O bond energies range from less than 1 to more than 30 kcal/mol without apparent reason. This H-bond puzzle is re-examined here from its very beginning and presented as an inclusive compilation of experimental H-bond energies andgeometries.New concepts emerge from this analysis: new classes of systematically strong H-bonds (CAHBs and RAHBs: charge- and resonance-assisted H-bonds); full H-bond classification in six classes (the six chemical leitmotifs); and assessment of the covalent nature of strong H-bonds. This leads to three distinct but inter-consistent models able to rationalize the H-bond and predict its strength, based on classical VB theory, matching of donor-acceptor acid-base parameters (PA or pKa), or shape of theH-bond proton-transfer pathway. Applications survey a number of systems where strong H-bonds play an important functional role, namely drug-receptor binding, enzymatic catalysis, ion-transport through cell membranes, crystal design and molecular mechanisms of functional materials.
