Organic Chemistry: Reaction Mechanism?

my group and i are reporting this tuesday about the reaction mechanism of adipic acid from cyclohexene, H2SO4, and potassium dichromate. I've been working on it all day, and i'm still empty-handed. I've searched the net like crazy. Could someone help? maybe i haven't typed the right keywords.
(1) we reacted cyclohexene with sulfuric acid.
(2) potassium dichromate was dissolved in water.
(3) the dichromate solution and the acidified cyclohexene were mixed slowly.
(4) methanol was added to change the color from yellow to green.
(5) the whole thing placed in an ice bath, filtered, and then recrystallized.

If you could, please just show which atoms flow from where and to what.

I presume the conditions 1) and 2) describe the formation of chromic acid. Dichromate is an anhydride of chromic acid.

I am not going to vouch for this, but it does seem rational. If I were proposing a mechanism, this would be it. In a Google search, I found a reference that said, "… supported a 2 + 3 cycloaddition mechanism …". That is step one would be identical to OsO4, MnO4, or O3 in a reaction with an alkene. I presume the cyclic ester will cleave to give a dialdehyde. In the presence of water, this should form the hydrate of the aldehyde. The hydrate in the presence of chromic acid will form a carboxylic acid.
