End of fuel and lack of energy

Over the past 100 years, new appliances, dishwashers, microwaves and air conditioners air have been invented. Because these inventions, it uses more energy than ever. It is expected that fossil fuels currently used for sources of energy is used within 50-200 years. When this happens, cities around the world will need alternative energy sources. Fortunately, There are several renewable energy sources are being developed and used worldwide.

This year 2080, and the power of the city is in crisis energy. Recent power outages have left people angry, without the use of computers, entertainment centers at home, light, and wireless phones. The failures are related to lack of fuel to run the Electric City Power Plant, which produces all the electricity for the city. Until now, coal was the only city source of energy. This has always been cheap and readily available, but supplies are dwindling rapidly.

The wind energy USA

Wind is the fastest growing world of alternative energy sources. In the United States of wind turbines in twenty-seven states to create a powerful enough for more than one million families. The Altamont Pass in Northern California is home to the country's oldest wind farm which is also the largest within seven miles wind.

Cape Wind Energy

Several years ago, Cape Wind first proposed Park U.S. offshore wind farm in Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound. Miles from the nearest coast, one hundred thirty windmills which reaches a height of two hundred sixty-three feet occur up to four one hundred twenty megawatts of clean, renewable energy. In the midst of winds, Cape Wind will provide three quarters of the electricity needs of Cape and Islands. The wind turbines will be spaced six to nine football fields apart, leaving a space for the navigation of vessels of small draft cross or fish Horseshoe Shoal. The turbines are located in 24 square miles of Nantucket Sound. General Electric wind turbines designed for use at sea would be used. The site was chosen because it was very favorable for the development of wind power (perhaps the best on the East Coast). The region of strong and consistent winds are near power lines ground, while being protected against high waves. The permit should be completed in 2008 and timing of completion of the project is 2010.

In the legal sense three nautical miles under the administration of the State of Massachusetts. Beyond three miles, where the project is proposed, is administered by the federal government. However, for residents of the Cape and islands, the project is considered being built in their backyard.

In fact, opposition to the project has been widely and opinion polls have consistently shown divided Cape Cod Population of Cape Wind. There are several reasons to measure opposition to the project. The tourism industry accounts in the course of nineteen thousand jobs and if the sight of wind turbines hurt tourism in Cape Town will lose their jobs and the economy and property values are depressed. While the first study of the project on the environment said damage to wildlife in the region would not be significant, many people remain concerned about the effect of wind in the marine environment of the region. Concern for birds flying into the turbines is also a problem. Some might argue that the solution is no wind, but other alternatives such as hydrogen and solutions to energy problems lies in solar and fuel cells, not wind energy.

If you're an environmentalist and lives in Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket, the proposed offshore wind farm presents a real dilemma for you. The project would provide clean energy, but the invasion of a blank area natural ocean. Could be regarded as a means of reducing air pollution or a problem for marine species and birds. Maybe considered as a way to replace our dependence on foreign oil or other equivalent government financed the Big Dig. It can be seen as a progressive solution to the problems of our environment or a way for greedy developers ruin the region of Cape Cod more.

The wind turbine project Nantucket Sound is unique is an argument of environmentalists against environmentalists. No pure "green" solution to the issue. You can see the wind as a progressive solution to energy problems of our generation. However, wind turbines can also be seen an ugly man in the invasion the sea and there is no potential for creating chaos (in a manner that does not yet understand) for marine species and birds.

These issues are complex economic and environment for the residents of Cape Cod and the Islands to be considered in regard to the first Cape wind farm proposed U.S. offshore wind in Nantucket Sound.

RESEARCH ON ENERGY ISSUES IN CHINA

RESEARCH ON ENERGY ISSUES IN CHINA

$59.95

China's rapid economic expansion raises questions internally and externally about how it will acquire the energy it needs to sustain growth. Currently it is the largest producer and consumer of coal; how much will it continue to rely on its abundant natural resource in the face of increasing environmental concerns? Will it embrace new clean coal technologies developed by others or invest in its own? Currently it imports 50% of the oil it consumes; will it invest in technologies that scrub the ocean floor for petroleum deposits? Will it develop new distribution technologies to bring its natural gas reserves closer to population centers? What role will conservation play? And how will China relate to the rest of the international community as it addresses these critical issues. Research on Energy Issues In China presents one prominent insider's view of China's key energy issues and his strategy for addressing them. A collection of papers authored by Jiang Zemin, former president of the People's Republic of China, it appears here in English for the first time. Jiang's message is an exhortation to the Chinese to invest in science and technology, and research and development, to ensure the steady supply of energy so crucial for sustaining and driving development. He outlines this energy strategy for China: "we need to steadfastly conserve energy, use it efficiently, diversify development, keep the environment clean, be technology driven and cooperate internationally in order to establish a system of energy production, distribution and consumption that is highly efficient, uses advanced technology, produces few pollutant, has minimal impact on the ecosystem, and provides a steady and secure energy supply." Within ten to twenty years, China may well be the world's largest energy consumption and supply system. This volume offers policy makers, energy industry analysts, researchers, and investors an inside view of how it plans to get there. Compares China's current energy situation with the developed world. Details specific challenges and opportunities in China with respect to coal, oil, nuclear, natural gas, solar, biomass, hydrogen, geothermal, wind, and ocean Presents an eight point energy development policy Provides a guide to China's future investment in research and development.

Urban Wind Energy

Urban Wind Energy

$97.5

Energy security, rising energy prices (oil, gas, electricity), 'peak oil', environmental pollution, nuclear energy, climate change and sustainable living are hot topics across the globe. Meanwhile, abundant and perpetual wind resources offer opportunities, via recent technological developments, to provide part of the solution to address these key issues. The rapid growth of large-scale wind farm installations has now led to the generation of clean electricity for tens of millions of homes around the world. However, despite the potential to reduce the losses and costs associated with transmission and to use local wind acceleration techniques to improve energy yields, the potential for urban wind energy has yet to be realised. Although there is increasing public interest, the uptake of urban wind energy in suitable areas has been slow. This is in part due to a lack of understanding of key issues such as: available wind resources; technology integration; planning processes (include assessment of environmental impacts and public safety due to close proximity to people and property); energy consumption in buildings versus energy production from turbines; economics (including grants, subsidies, maintenance); and the effect of complex urban windscapes on performance.Urban Wind Energy attempts to illuminate these areas, addressing common concerns highlighting pitfalls, offering real world examples and providing a framework to assess viability in energy, environmental and economic terms. It is a comprehensive guide to urban wind energy for architects, engineers, planners, developers, investors, policy-makers, manufacturers and students as well as community organisations and home-owners interested in generating their own clean electricity.

Power Electronics for Modern Wind Turbines

Power Electronics for Modern Wind Turbines

$30

Wind energy is now the world's fastest growing energy source. In the past 10 years, the global wind energy capacity has increased rapidly. The installed global wind power capacity has grown to 47.317 GW from about 3.5 GW in 1994. The global wind power industry installed 7976 MW in 2004, an increase in total installed generating capacity of 20%. The phenomenal growth in the wind energy industry can be attributed to the concerns to the environmental issues, and research and development of innovative cost-reducing technologies. Denmark is a leading producer of wind turbines in the world, with an almost 40% share of the total worldwide production. The wind energy industry is a giant contributor to the Danish economy. In Denmark, the 3117 MW (in 2004) wind power is supplied by approximately 5500 wind turbines. Individuals and cooperatives own around 80% of the capacity. Denmark will increase the percentage of energy produced from wind to 25% by 2008, and aims for a 50% wind share of energy production by 2025. Wind technology has improved significantly over the past two decades, and almost all of the aspects related to the wind energy technology are still under active research and development. However, this monograph will introduce some basics of the electrical and power electronic aspects involved with modern wind generation systems, including modern power electronics and converters, electric generation and conversion systems for both fixed speed and variable speed systems, control techniques for wind turbines, configurations of wind farms, and the issues of integrating wind turbines into power systems.

Without a doubt, the topic of energy--from coal, oil, and nuclear to geothermal, solar and wind--is one of the most pressing across the globe. It is of paramount importance to policy makers, economists, environmentalists, and industry as they consider which technologies to invest in, how to promote use of renewable energy sources, and how to plan for dwindling reserves of non-renewable energy. In Energy: What Everyone Needs to Know, Jos Goldemberg, a nuclear physicist who has been hailed by Time magazine as one of the world`s top "leaders and visionaries on the environment," takes readers through the basics of the world energy system, its problems, and the technical as well as non-technical solutions to the most pressing energy problems. Addressing the issues in a Q-and-A format, Goldemberg answers such questions as: What are wind, wave, and geothermal energy? What are the problems of nuclear waste disposal? What is acid rain? What is the greenhouse gas effect? What is Carbon Capture and Storage? What are smart grids? What is the Kyoto Protocol? What is "cap and trade"? The book sheds light on the role of population growth in energy consumption, renewable energy resources, the amount of available energy reserves (and when they will run out), geopolitical issues, environmental problems, the frequency of environmental disasters, energy efficiency, new technologies, and solutions to changing consumption patterns. It will be the first place to look for information on the vital topic of energy.
