Many people in the U.K are investing in wind energy technologies in addition or as an alternative to solar power. This is a positive step as wind energy is a key part of the UK’s future energy growth and the governments plan to reduce carbon emissions.  40% of all the wind energy in Europe blows over the UK, making it an ideal country for small domestic turbines.

Where you live can be a big decider on whether you can implement an efficient renewable energy system such as wind power.

How do wind turbines work?

Wind turbines use large blades to catch the wind. When the wind blows the blades are forced round, driving a turbine which generates electricity. The stronger the wind, the more electricity produced.

There are two types of domestic-sized wind turbine:

Mast mounted: these are free standing and are erected in a suitably exposed position, often around 2.5kW to 6kW

Roof mounted: these are smaller than mast mounted systems and can be installed on the roof of a home where there is a suitable wind resource. Often these are around 1kW to 2kW in size.

BIG TIP: If your small wind system is connected to the National Grid then you can make money by selling any generated electricity to an electricity supply company.

If the turbine is not connected to the electricity grid then unused electricity can be stored in a battery for use when there is no wind.

Is wind electricity suitable for my home?

There are a few factors to consider if a small scale domestic wind turbine is right for you:

  • You need to consider whether there are large obstructions like buildings, trees or hills near your home as small domestic wind turbines work best in exposed locations, without turbulence caused by these types of obstructions.
  • You will also need to consider if your home is in an area with enough wind. For the wind turbines to be effective you need an average windspeed of no less than 5m/s.
  • If your home is in a remote location away from the National Grid, small wind turbines may be well suited.
  • If you need planning permission. Small wind turbine systems generally will need planning permission.

If McCain wants to put an action plan for alternative energy, including wind ...?

Why not voted in the past 8 proposals from the Congress plans? Honestly, if he is scolding Congress (which is still a people belong) to go on vacation and not vote in these measures should not have at least taken the time to vote on any previous projects? Yes, the point is to do what they were elected to do, is to adopt laws. So why states that supported those ideas, but no vote in them? He was elected to represent the Z, but not vote on issues States are vital.

If you can name 3 major problems that McCain has been consistent over the last 8 years was truly my hero. Vote McCain did not match his rhetoric, in fact, his speech does not match his rhetoric. I have no idea who or why McCain is a liar who is not evil, help for mentally handicapped or indifferent and insensitive to the problems with attention that it really saying and he is incredibly patriotic dropped my jaw. How to Strategically Evaluate India. Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating India is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to wind energy equipment are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. The figure below summarizes the key dimensions and recommendations of such an approach. Using these two composites, one can prioritize all countries of the world. Countries of high latent demand and high relative accessibility (e.g. easier entry for one firm compared to other firms) are given highest priority. The figure below shows two different scenarios. Accessibility is defined as a firm’s ease of entering or supplying from or to a market (the “supply side”), and latent demand is an indicator of the potential in serving from or to the market (the “demand side”). Framework for Prioritizing Countries. Demand/Market Potential Driven Firm. Relative Accessibility. Accessibility/Supply Averse Firm. In the top figure, the firm is driven by market potential, whereas the bottom figure represents a firm that is driven by costs or by an aversion to difficult markets. This report treats the reader as coming from a “generic firm” approaching the global market – neither a market-driven nor a cost-driven company. Planners must therefore augment this report with their own company-specific factors that might change the priorities (e.g. a Canadian firm may have higher accessibility in Canada than a German firm). Latent Demand and Accessibility in India. This report provides a detailed overview of factors driving latent demand and accessibility for wind energy equipment in India. Latent demand is largely driven by economic fundamentals specific to wind energy equipment. This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in India on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State).
